Story:
Born in Denver, Colorado spent the first 16 years of my life in the mountains of Utah. In a small town I competed in a lot of different sports when I was younger like BMX, Tennis, Golf, and Swimming. I grew up working on my dad's farm, moving sprinklers, taking care of horses and cows and driving tractors. My first real job while I was still in Tooele High School was flipping burgers and cleaning fry vats at McDonalds. I learned windsurfing with my father, sister and a good friend named Chris Carlisle. We did this on what I would now call a pond not a lake. Once we progressed we started going to some of the bigger lakes in the area that were windy and then finally we made it to the Gorge for the first time in about '84. The first time I raced was in the Gorge when I was about 15. It was in the junior class and I have no idea how I did, must not have been very good. My dad then took a vacation to Maui in '86 and that was the end of Utah for him, I followed shortly thereafter. My mom and brother weren't very happy I was leaving but they understood what windsurfing was to me and let me go.

In Maui I didn't really aspire to be professional but it seemed there weren't any young kids coming up into racing, lots of wave guys but not to many racers and I met the right people at the right times. The first person that started to help me was Alan Cadiz a top pro at the time and a great teacher. He tried to get me on with Neil Pryde but they had to large of a team at the time. My first sponsor for sails was Freedom and Bill Whidden, he helped me out a lot with free sails and I tried to help them with R&D even though I didn't know anything at the time. I was still in High School so I was only doing local events in Maui.

Finally I graduated from St. Anthony High School and went back to the Gorge to train with Scott Sanchez and the Gorge Junior Team. This was a summer break for me to try and improve my windsurfing as well as take a break before I went back to Maui and start college at MCC. This was a great summer for me, I improved my sailing and conditioning tremendously working with Scott. I also met Phil McGain and when I got back to Maui he tried to help me get sponsored by Gaastra but it never came through so it looked like college was the way for me.

Not long after I started college Ian Boyd helped me get sponsored by North Sails and I met Pierre Jeangirard. Pierre was the biggest person that helped me to get where I am today next to my dad. He really pushed North to continue to help me with money to travel and race as well as train and coach me for many years. He also taught me about testing equipment, which is the biggest part of my current windsurfing life. I have now been with North Sails since 1989, testing and racing the entire time.

My first international pro race was in 1990 in Almanarre, France. I didn't make very much money the first years barely enough to live in Maui thanks to Pierre and my dad. In 1987 I had spent enough money and time and was not getting ahead in the racing or financially so I had decided this was to be my last year, then I went to Almanarre and finished either first or second or something and picked up Drops as a big sponsor. From there things started to get much better, my results went up as well as my bank account. I was able to start paying off my debts as well as put some money in the bank. I decided to keep going for a while longer, and here I am today.

The best day of my life was March 19th 2004 when Laura gave birth to our son Lance Jacob Buzianis, it was also one of the most emotional days of my life. I thought it would be a while longer before I had a family but now I wonder why I waited this long it is the most awesome feeling. It has been hard traveling this year and being away from Lance but it is also very motivating, all I have to do is think about him and it totally relaxes me and fires me up all at the same time.

I know this is a lot of babbling and jumping around on topics but I just wanted to try and give a few in depth details of how I have gotten here without boring anyone to much. It has been an unbelievable ride much more than I ever would have imagined. I have met so many great people and made so many great friendships that I wouldn't wish to be on a different path than I have taken or am on right now. I will continue to compete professionally and test equipment for at least the next two to three years. I am very happy with my current sponsors and the direction that we are going.
